Based in Hamilton, APL was founded in 1971. The company markets its products through its national brands: Altherm Window Systems, First Windows & Doors and Vantage Aluminium Joinery.

APL's well-known window and door product ranges include the Metro Series, APL Architectural Series, Metro Thermal Heart, Klima uPVC Windows & Doors, the Smartwood Series and diverse commercial suites.

APL designs and tests its proprietary systems and has an on-site aluminium extrusion plant (INEX), surface-finishing plants (FINEX for anodising, Colour Works for powder coating), a manufacturing facility (ALPAC) and a distribution fleet (APL Direct) to service its network of more than 70 manufacturers nationwide.

APL has branch offices in Auckland and Christchurch.
